Herb Lubalin Zine

I designed, researched, wrote, and bound a sixteen page biographical zine that described the life and work of designer Herb Lubalin. Lubalin was known for his creative use of text and was one of the first designers to break barriers between what text could be used for in graphic design. To capture his style in my work I used color, typography, and specific fonts. All the fonts used throughout the zine were designed by Lubalin himself, which creates a harmonious look. Black and white are the only colors used besides pictures, mimicking Lubalin's many black and white designs.

Researching and making this zine helped me develop a better understanding of layout and print design. Since the final product was a physical book I learned many technical skills relating to printing, such as document setup and the details of book binding. Along with that I also learned creative skills that would make a physical design like this stand out.

Design Research Booklet

This is a digital booklet and research project that focuses on global and local graphic design work. I designed, wrote, and researched the booklet. The goal for this booklet was to present research on three design artifacts from around the world that had been uploaded to the People’s Graphic Design Archive. Then to find and document three design artifacts from Charlotte, North Carolina and add them to the PGDA. After the research was done I compiled it into this booklet, which includes all six of the design artifacts I researched. The process I went through to create this booklet taught me about in depth research and both local and global design history.
